A. Q. Arif started drawing and painting from a very early age. He also had interest in music but painting always had the edge. After high school he decided to pursue art by enrolling in Karachi School of Arts in 1992. After completing his fine arts degree, he started teaching art and has been since. Along with teaching he has refined his own work and his 22 year experience with teaching has helped him a lot.
Arif chose architecture as his point of interest and has shown its complexities as well as its simplicity, side by side, to complement each other. He usually chooses minimum colors and works in their tone, so that the attention of the viewer does not divert from the objective. He prefers to use earthy tones and the various shades of the night sky because to him they depict the soul.
