Human activities and the spaces they inhabit, have fascinated Ather ever since he began painting in the early 1980’s. His works showcase rural settings and contemporary urban spaces, as well as the locals, such as the traditional Thari Women. His paintings also showcase old Karachi and the Katchi Abadi series, which are mostly painted on the spot (plein air) in watercolours.
