Dr. Syed Ali Wasif is basically a practicing psychiatrist and a self-taught artist. He is a simple, friendly and straight forward person; he believes in mutual respect and human dignity. He is into photography and painting, and writes on psychosocial issues. At times, he feels that his derailed thoughts take the form of poetry. He calls his work “The Politics of Stress,” which is basically a dialogue with the society and system in which we are entrapped.
His work has evolved over a period of time. In his initial phase as an artist he was involved in realistic art, mostly doing still life and pen and ink sketches, but now, being a disciple and friend of the late Sadequain, he has identified himself with him, and his work has turned into distortion, surrealism or a kind of modern art, but his content revolves around human emotions / expressions and social issues rather than the cactus.
