Jovita Alvares was born in Karachi, Pakistan. As valedictorian for the class of 2016, Alvares has received her undergraduate degree in Fine Art with a distinction in thesis and an overall distinction from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture.
Alvares has received numerous awards including the Imran Mir Art Prize in 2016. She was a Resident Artist of the 4th Sanat Residency in 2017 and has been a participant of various group shows in London, Karachi, Lahore and Dubai as well as artist talks as part of the Karachi Biennale ’17 Discursive. She exhibited her works in her first solo exhibition ‘Wallflower’ at the Imran Mir gallery in 2018.
She is a visual artist by profession while also working as Designer and Sub-Editor for Artnow Pakistan. Settled and working in Karachi, she regularly reviews and conducts interviews for the magazine along with other publications that include Youlin, Dawn and The Friday Times.
