Sadia Salim is a multidisciplinary art practitioner whose pedagogical engagement is informed by her practice as the thematic narratives articulate. Real, everyday issues like changing eco-structures, evolving visual traditions in theology, and research in indigenous craft form the overarching narratives in her work. Though Salim’s north star has been the medium of ceramics, her investigations have led her to proficiency in photography, mapping, text, video and discovering found objects.
Sadia Salim’s ongoing explorations are as extensive as they are intensive. Most recently, she established the first Graduate Programme, an interdisciplinary study in critical and creative practice, at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (IVS). The programme, the first of its kind in Karachi, was led by her for four years (2018-2021). Previously she led the Department of Ceramics at IVS (2005 – 2010). Salim received a B.Des. from IVS and an Ed.M. in Art and Art Education from Columbia University.
