Babar Moghal graduated from Karachi School of Arts in 1993 and has been working as a traditional artist – painter for almost 30 years. He also acted as a curator at the full circle gallery, Karachi from 2017-2022.
Moghal believes it is easier to get satisfaction and meaning through art in youth but as we grow older our ideas grow old and redundant with ourselves, and after a certain period you don’t wait for inspiration, you just get up and start working.
Moghal’s work appears well-planned, but the truth is opposite. His works intuitively, typically beginning with a central object, such as a sketch of a figure, building, or vehicle. From there, he creates a world around that object without any specific planning. He finds it limiting to attach specific meanings to colors and forms, as he believes it hinders the progress of new visual ideas. To him, creating art is akin to an emotionally charged performance. He states that the practice of art provides a measurable space to move without fear and anxiety, and a way out when he feels like it.
