Abro’s art reflects his passion for speaking up on social issues, and portrays these issues effectively. Born in Hyderabad in 1957, he has tried to dabble in every form of the visual arts. An activist to the core, his work deals with social themes and issues ranging from human rights to dictatorial regimes. An artist, photographer, illustrator, graphic designer, calligrapher, cartoonist and blogger, he has had the honour to hold several exhibitions even before he joined the National College of Arts in Lahore. Most of his work is strongly political, in which his intent has always been to get the message out, with little interest in commercial successes. His sensitivity to the plight of women, and a desire for regional peace, are all expressed strongly in his work. He enjoys vibrant colours, that are apparent in his photography as well as his paintings. Currently, he works with Daily DAWN as an illustrator.
