Manizhe’s recent artworks are introspective and deal with the concept of memory and identity, and create a visual memoir of familial history and derived identity. Working with old photographs the works are like a palimpsest of erased and reworked thoughts and memories, which rise to the surface or sink away only to resurface again at odd times. Her work points to the construction and furtherance of a personal narrative. Narratives depend on memories, and memories cannot be suppressed or entirely erased, despite all attempts to do just that.
