My artwork takes a critical view on social and cultural issues. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project my methodology is consistent. Although there may not always be material similarities between the different projects they are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter. The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the work.
Needlework is a form of self-expression and meditation for me. It is addictive and the freedom of this medium is exciting, there are unlimited possibilities to explore. My art practice is extremely time-consuming as most of my pieces are stitched by hand. Experimenting with different threads and textiles is part of the process. Being involved with my work from beginning to end gives me extreme satisfaction as an artist. Combining photography with textiles and thread nurtures my creativity and keeps me excited about my work. My art practice is developing in such a manner where I am combining more mediums, but I believe in taking my time in doing so.
