Shahid Ahmed is amongst the new wave of truck artists who emerged on the truck art scene 2006 onwards. Troubled by the dwindling business of decorating and hand painting trucks, a practice that goes back to 1960’s in Pakistan, these artists sought to apply their skills to new surfaces. House hold objects decorated with the truck art imagery became all the rage when entrepreneurs realizing the market for these trinkets began to exhibit and export them to the western world.
Shahid’s portfolio is extensive with a range of utensils painted by him along with the more traditional forms like truck and the recently emerging trend of wall art both in public places as well as interiors of restaurants like Chaiwala and their campaigns on rickshaws.
Even though Shahid does not believe that a truck artist in Pakistan has much of a future, he continues to pursue his passion and hopes to be part of the cohort of artists exhibiting and promoting the art internationally.
