Munawar Ali Syed is a multidisciplinary artist and art educator hailing from Hyderabad Sindh, settled and working in Karachi with several national and international solo and group exhibitions to his credit. He teaches as an Assistant professor at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture and is a member of the visiting faculty at the Department of Visual Studies, Karachi University. Syed has done his Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) major in sculpture from the National College of Arts, Lahore in 1999. Later, he completed his Master in Art Education from Beaconhouse National University, Lahore in 2017. Munawar was also a participating artist of Karachi Biennale KB17.
Munawar Ali Syed is the main force behind ‘The Great Wall of Truck Art Project’ at the new Islamabad Airport which was executed in collaboration with Wajid Ali and leading truck artists.
He was instrumental in connecting the KAD team and research interns to truck artists and sharing his knowledge of this popular commercial practice. His insights helped us understand the practice and determine KAD’s criteria for the category.
